Varsity Girls Tennis Topples BGA Wildcats
The girls varsity tennis team had a convincing win over the BGA Wildcats on Thursday. Charlotte Mikos won her #1 singles match 8-2 with her blistering serves and powerful forehand winners. Leah Fremont won her #2 singles match in a closely fought battle 8-6. Leah proved too consistent and experienced to capture the win. Hannah Sides played through a sprained ankle in her match, losing 5-8, but showing her courage and resilience to play through the injury. Maddie Yeatman and Elliott Moloney played great as a team to win at their #1 doubles position 8-5. They used the net position to put away winning shots. Greer Bodzy and Caroline Vrettos were too good for their opponents, winning 8-2. They each served well and played consistently from the baseline. The HVAC tournament is Monday, September 27 at Jim Warren Park 3PM.

Hawks Come up Short in Close Game with FRA

The Harding Academy 7/8 football team took on FRA in front of a great crowd at Sohr Track and Field on Wednesday, Sept. 15. It was a closely matched contest with the Panthers coming out on top, 6-0. Harding was not able to capitalize on several Panther fumbles and ended up giving up a score that was fumbled into the end zone and recovered by FRA. A stop there would have led to a 4th down play, but it was not to be.

Varsity Football Loses to Columbia Academy
On a short week, Harding traveled to Columbia to take on Columbia Academy. A slow start found the Hawks down 10-0 after a safety and a Lion touchdown just minutes into the game. The Hawks were a bit shell shocked and struggled to come up with any offense against a fast, aggressive Lion defense. Meanwhile, Columbia Academy rode a strong running game to two more first half touchdowns and a 24-0 halftime lead. The coaching staff challenged the team to come out fighting in the second half and they did just that only giving up a safety while the Lions kept in their starters until deep into the 4th quarter. Jackson Lucas' pass fell just short of Quinn Taylor '23 as time expired with the Hawks trying to punch in a score. That pass was set up by a long completion from Lucas to tight end, Christian Land '22Sam Bowers '22 was a consistent presence in the Lions' backfield from his inside linebacker position. Chase Embry '23 and Daniel Maumus '23 played solid games as part of the Hawk secondary as well. Harding returns to action one final time next Thursday, Sept. 30 when it takes on Ensworth at EHS at 6:30pm. We would love a large Harding contingent to cheer us on! Go Hawks!!

Varsity Girls Tennis Takes First Loss of the Season to CPA
The girls tennis team played in windy conditions on Wednesday against an experienced team from CPA. Despite playing some good tennis in the challenging conditions, the team lost 4-1. Charlotte Mikos battled back at the #1 singles spot from 4-7 to reach 7-7 with determination and steady play. Her opponent ended up winning 9-7 in a closely fought match. Leah Fremont lost 5-8 in her #2 singles match against another experienced and steady player. Hannah Sides earned the only win of the day at the #3 singles position 8-4, showcasing her quick movement and steady play around the court. Hannah was just too steady and experienced for her opponent. Maddie Yeatman and Elliott Moloney played well despite losing their #1 doubles match 4-8. They each served well and battled their opponents as much as they battle the windy conditions. Caroline Vrettos and Greer Bodzy played # 2 doubles and did a good job as a team despite losing 4-8. Frances Strauss has a close exhibition singles match, playing her opponent to a 5-8 finish. The girls play the end of the season tournament on Monday and Tuesday next week at Jim Warren Park in Franklin.

Varsity Boys Tennis
The boys varsity tennis team is flying high heading into the tournament next week. The Hawks are on a 3 match win streak and have been getting contributions up and down the lineup. The duo of Walt Sanders and Henry Anderson remain undefeated, as does Jackson Husbands. Ethan Sides and Max Miller have been holding down the 1 and 3 singles lines, while the formidable matchup of Maxwell Beauchamp and Benton Wright have solidified the doubles side. We’re excited to play hard and compete at the tournament next week.
