    2020-2021 Winter Sports Information

    For All Basketball Teams:
The winter season is nearly upon us. Our plan is to keep things contained to campus in a practice environment with tight protocols in place for the month of December as well as the entire season (masks on at all times during practice, hand sanitizing before, during (water breaks) and after practice, disinfecting balls before and after practice, strict social distancing while not involved in drills on the court). Our game schedule will begin in January upon return from winter break, but is subject to change based on the conditions at that time.

Players should always have their own water bottle for practice and wear to school the clothes in which they plan to practice as we will not provide changing spaces.

    Girls Varsity Basketball
Our basketball season will get underway on Monday, Nov. 30. The girls and boys will rotate early and late practice sessions in our gym during the season. Practices will take place Monday-Friday. For our first two weeks in December, the girls practices will be as follows:

Week of Nov. 30-Dec. 4 (early session, 3:15-4:45 PM in the Harding Gym)
Week of Dec. 7-11 (late session, 4:45-6:15 PM in the Harding Gym)

As much as possible when the girls have the late practice, students should go home in afternoon hookup and return for practice.

Please contact Coach Luke Countryman (countrymanl@hardingacademy.org) with any questions for the start of the season.

    Winter Swimming
Swimming will have a drastically altered schedule this year due to lane availability at the Ensworth Natatorium. Practices will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (7:30-8:30PM) and Saturday mornings (11:00AM-12:00PM). Many programs are not even able to have swimming this year so we are fortunate to have lane time at Ensworth. Swim practices will begin the week we return from Thanksgiving break and follow the schedule below for the first two weeks of December:

    Tuesday, Dec. 1 (7:30-8:30 PM)
    Thursday, Dec. 3 (7:30-8:30 PM)
*No Practice Saturday, Dec. 5 due to a meet at Ensworth Natatorium
    Tuesday, Dec. 8 (7:30-8:30 PM)
    Thursday, Dec. 10 (7:30-8:30 PM)
    Saturday, Dec. 12 (11:00am-12:00 PM)

Practices will continue through January and February on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Please contact Coach Jake Madden (maddenj@hardingacademy.org) with any questions.

    Winter Strength and Conditioning
We will once again be offering a winter strength and conditioning program under the leadership of Sammy and Emma Cribb, both Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists. This will take place after school in two different sessions (3:15-4:00) and (4:00-4:45pm). We have already had an initial sign up and spots are very limited due to our space and the nature of the activity. Please reach out to Coach Lucas (lucasc@hardingacademy.org) if you are interested in having your son or daughter participate. Unfortunately, this activity cannot be done in coordination with other sports with the possible exception of swimming because it takes place in the evenings.

Please contact Coach Emma Cribb (emma@coachcribb.com) with any questions.

Practices will begin on Monday, October 19 upon our return from fall break and go from 3:30-5:00pm. The girls and boys will rotate weeks at Kever Park and Sohr Family Track and Field. We will field both varsity and JV teams for both girls and boys and play a game schedule with each team. Cheerleading Moves to Late Fall
Cheerleading practice will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the gym from 3:15-4:45pm. Masks and Water bottles will be required for each athlete on a daily basis. Any cheer questions can be directed to Coach Allison Cunningham (cunninghamc@hardingacademy.org).

    New Strength and Conditioning Offering
As a result of not having wrestling and swimming as late fall sport offerings, we are fortunate to be able to offer a strength and conditioning program with Coaches Sammy and Emma Cribb. We have created the late fall strength and conditioning schedule and will be sending that out individually to participants in the near future.

    Wrestling and Swimming
As a reminder, we have made the difficult decision to not offer wrestling in the late fall season due to the close and constant contact required in the sport. Our developmental swim program will also not happen due to a lack of pool time and space across the city. Swim facilities have cut back their rentals significantly or stopped them altogether and have limited the number of participants in their pools. All middle TN swim programs who don't have access to their own facilities are being impacted by this. We are actively working to try and procure pool space for our competitive swim season in the winter.

  • 8th Grade Athletes

    Harding 8th Grade Families,

This week's athletic highlights will begin a process of recognizing all of our 8th grade spring athletes. We are truly appreciative of the time and effort they put into Harding athletics not only for the short time they had this spring, but also for the previous three years as well. It goes without saying that we have a tremendous amount of gratitude for all of their unique contributions to our athletic program as a whole as well as to their respective teams. Even though we hold out hope that we can have some sort of season-ending competition in early May, we know it won't be the same as in years past and our hearts go out to all of the 8th graders for not having the opportunity to experience their final season at Harding in the way they had all anticipated.

Please check out the athletic highlights every Friday to see our recognitions for the Class of 2020 spring athletes.

    Sincerely,
    Corby Lucas
