  • 2021-22 Harding Basketball Information

    Corby Lucas
We wanted to be in touch with some important information about basketball season at Harding Academy. An adaptation we made to Covid last year was to create a developmental team on the boys side, which proved to be a huge success for the growth of those less experienced players. We played a series of intra-squad "blue vs. white" games where officials were assigned and they played games against each other in our gym. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and so we have decided to keep that model moving forward. This year, we would like to replicate that model on the girls side as well.

Our boys participation numbers are traditionally in the mid 40's and our girls in the mid 20's so that consideration has to be taken into account. The numbers may be such that we only have a varsity girls team and a developmental team. We feel a situation where our girls can learn and develop while playing against each other is much better than playing opponents who cut players and have JV teams that may be as talented as some varsity teams in the league.

Please reach out to Coach Jason Embry for any questions on the boys program or Coach Luke Countryman for any questions on the girls program. We are confident this is the best model for development in our basketball program.

    Developmental Swimming (Late Fall)

The late fall swim team is open to middle school students, with fewer than 2 years of competitive swimming experience. The late fall season is designed to be focused on exposure to the competitive sport and instruction of stroke technique.  The winter season is wholly focused on competition.  Team workouts will begin the week of October 4.  Our daily practices will consist of some dry-land workouts and in-water work.  Practices will take place Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from 3:15pm to 4:00pm.  Students will take the bus to the Ensworth Natatorium, and will be back at Harding by approximately 4:15pm for an optional 30 minute study hall. Pickup will be in the depot at 4:45pm on practice days.

Please e-mail Head Coach Jake Madden (maddenj@hardingacademy.us) with any questions.

We will be having our competition swim team informational meeting for parents and swimmers on Tuesday, October 19th, at 6:00pm, in Mr. Madden’s Classroom in the middle school building.  At this meeting we will be discussing meets we will be attending, we will have a team suit fitting and team gear orders.  I strongly encourage all (swimmers and parents) to attend who are thinking about swimming in the winter season, so please put it on your calendar!

    Wrestling

The wrestling season will get underway officially on Monday, October 4. Practice will be from 3:30-5:00 PM daily. Wrestlers are responsible for providing their own wrestling shoes, headgear, knee pads, etc. Practice attire will include shorts and t-shirts and headgear will be worn at all times during practice. No experience required.

The Wrestling parent meeting will take place virtually on Tuesday, October 5 at 6:00 PM. The meeting link is: meet.google.com/nbo-ibcc-xqv
