The 6th Grade Lady Generals earned their first victory of the season on Saturday morning against Ensworth Futures League opponent, The Big Orange Slime, 28-6 in a total team effort.
The motto of the 6th Grade squad this year is "Team," and this game was a perfect example of that mentality. No official book or statistics are kept in the Futures League, so the details of each individual performance have fittingly been lost to history.
What can be certain is that the Lady Generals excelled in their man-to-man defense, limiting The Slime to 6 points and earning over 10 steals. Each player executed their role with discipline and unselfishness.
Point Guards Abby Morrison and Maddy Hartleroad implemented the offense, and made excellent offensive and defensive decisions. Guard Layla Perkins and Power Forward Charlotte Gunnels attacked the basket and provided scrappy defense from the wings. Centers Isabella Montgomery, Avery Cooper, and Sophi Stankiwicz fought for every rebound while also becoming scoring threats from the post.
The Saturday morning victory was won long before through the days of tireless work, improvement, and refusal to become discouraged that embodies this special group of girls.
