Girls Varsity Soccer Goes to OT

The Girls Varsity Soccer team battled CPA into two 5 minute overtime periods before falling on a last minute shot.
On Tuesday November 18th, the Lady Hawks stepped on the field for the HVAC Semi Final match against the Lions of CPA. The top seed in the A-Tournament and well earned. From the opening whistle it was neck and neck. A physical match up with Snow Mannes and Kate Fulghum anchoring the defensive midfield line as always. Midway through the first half, Lexi Fulghum ripped a shot from the 18 right past the CPA keeper with no chance at a save. Solid backline play from Georgia Husbands & Sydney Bradshaw kept the Lions out of our goal for the majority of the first half. But just before half they snuck one past us and tied it up 1-1 going into Halftime.

The second half proved to be much of the same, with incredible hustle, combination play, and hard fought tackles on both ends. Sumner Hanks was taking no prisoners with multiple breakaways and some great through balls to the front line. Nina Armstrong was a Human Shield blocking shot after shot, diving saves, quick decision making and intensity. She kept us in the game, and the first 60-minutes of regulation was tied 1-1. We headed to overtime. Two 5-minute periods. After the first 5....still Tied. Second 5 it is getting serious. Shots, Saves, Slide tackling. I can hear the Hawks sideline erupting in excitement led by 8th Graders Romy Gardner and Clara Bahan. They kept our hopes and spirits alive every game.

It truly came down to the final minute, when back to back to back corner kicks for the Lions kept them down in our redzone, and resulted in the game winning goal. The Hawks are not defined by one game, but rather a season that took them in the Final Four, and an Overtime Battle. What a team, what a game, what a season to remember. Go Hawks.
