Lady Generals Overcome Adversity to Beat Grassland
The 6th Grade Lady Generals Basketball Team overcame considerable adversity Saturday morning to defeat Grassland Middle School 36-6. The Generals, missing half of their team due to various illnesses, conflicts, and injuries faced a daunting task of playing a forty minute game without subs or rest. Injured Charlotte Gunnels bravely fought through considerable pain to score 4 points and give the General guards a few moments of rest.
The Generals took the lead early in the game with a basket by Avery Cooper, and never looked back. Led by Point Guard Abby Morrison's 12 points, the Generals unleashed an offesive onslaught not yet seen this season. Layla Perkins dropped in 8 points, and had countless steals in her best game of the year.
The talented Center trio of Sophi Stankiwicz, Isabella Montgomery, and Avery Cooper each scored, pulled down rebounds, and had tremendous defensive efforts that held Grassland to 6 points. These post players have been the unsung heroes in both victories this year.
Overcoming all of these obstactles to still dominate a game shows the grit and determination of this team. It was a win well deserved.
