Lady Generals Claim Victory Over Clarksville Academy
Coach Holleman
For the fourth consecutive game, the Harding Academy Varsity Girls basketball team scored at least 44 points, this time dominating the visiting Clarksville Academy Lady Cougars from start to finish with a 45-19 conference victory.
From the opening tip, the defense of the Lady Generals of Harding Academy smothered their guests on the scoreboard over every square foot of the court. Two-time all-conference forward Olivia Craig broke out in a big way, scoring 7 of the home team's 14 first quarter points while anchoring a defense that held the visitors to a mere 3 points in the opening frame. In the second quarter, Claire Slagle took over, relentlessly slashing to the bucket for 6 points. Olivia Craig tacked on another 5 points as Harding took a 25-8 halftime lead. In the third quarter, the home team threw gas on the fire as it executed with surgical precision on the offensive end with a balanced 14-point scoring attack with contributions from Slagle, Carly Frist, Ella Craig, Olivia Craig and Riley Jones, while holding Clarksvile Academy to just 4 third quarter points. In the final frame, Harding got some dynamic defensive work from Grace Moore and Lindsey Parker, who each scored a basket, while Annelise Kyzer controlled the boards and converted a beautiful basket of her own on an excellent assist from Moore. The Lady Generals were led in scoring by Olivia Craig with a game- and season-high 14 points in less than three quarters, followed by Slagle with 10 points and Ella Craig with 8 points. Jones contributed 4 points, Carly Frist, Moore, Parker and Kyzer chipped in 2 points each, and Cate Frist added a free-throw to round out the scoring. Harding Academy (11-3, 6-1) will travel to University School of Nashville tomorrow for a non-conference road game at 4:30 p.m.
