Harding Advances to 4-3 Record After Three Fierce Games

In a week of exciting lacrosse competition, Harding Academy's Lady Generals lost to Ensworth and defeated Hendersonville and the Franklin Arrows (formerly Grassland), taking the school's record to 4-3.

Against Hendersonville, the girls worked like a well-oiled machine, scoring 14 goals while only 4 bested goalie Cooper Mae Cavallo, who made 8 beautiful saves. Goals were scored by Lindsey Holloman (1), Ellie Slagles (4), Maggie Faber (2), Julia Townsend (2), Lily Wilmoth (4), and Annie Griffin (1).

The Ensworth game was a much more even match. Julia Townsend stood out, controlling the draw and forcing Ensworth turnovers, while Lily Wilmoth likewise made an interception and attacked the goal, scoring two points for her team. Ellie Slagle walked away with a hat trick of 3 goals. In goal, Cooper Mae Cavallo made a remakable 13 saves—holding off Ensworth as long as possible. In the end, it wasn't our best day — and Ensworth walked away with the victory, winning 8-5.

Wednesday's game against Grassland was quite possibly the most fun game of lacrosse I have witnessed as a coach this season! The girls were alive and aggressive—challenging every attack, going after every ground ball, redefending on the offensive side of the field, and taking shots on goal with fierocity that the Franklin Arrows were not expecting. Caroline Frederickson had a beautiful goal, scored after a well-timed assist from teammate Lily Wilmoth, who scored 4 goals of her own, one of which was left-handed (a huge feat for a developing lacrosse player). Julia Townsend played an incredible game, leading the team with ground balls, forced turnovers, and an interception, not to mention an incredible goal and assist. Annie Griffin played her heart out as well, and helped her team to the victory with several groundballs and an interception. Ellie Frist led her teammates on defense, with loud communication and several game-changing ball recoveries starting a mid-field transition that led to Harding goals at the other end of the field. But perhaps most remarkable was the game play by goalie Cooper Mae Cavallo. 10 saves in goal kept the Franklin Arrows frustrated and on their heels, unable to get the ball in the net. All told, the team that played the Franklin Arrows Wednesday is a team that can win the 2016 Championship. It was so exciting to watch and energizing for our last two weeks of the season.

Way to go Generals!!!
