Google Expeditions Makes a Big Impact

On Friday, April 15, Google Expeditions helped Harding faculty members Ben Kreps and Andrew Ballow present virtual reality technology to groups of students as well as to a group of parents and teachers.
Using the Google Cardboard viewers and an iPad, Kreps and Ballow were able to select many different visual experiences. Teachers learned that the technology can be use to introduce students to areas all over the world from Paris to the pyramids to the Great Barrier Reef, while they are studying different aspects of history and/or geography. Students reacted with great interest and curiosity. Parents, too, were impressed as they traveled underwater to see Great White sharks, to the Pyramids and Aztec ruins, as well as to the top of Mount Everest and the London Eye. The technology, which is still in Beta mode, will eventually include the ability to zoom and hear sound as well.

Harding already has a number of Google VR viewers for classroom use and looks forward to possibly implementing this newest virtual reality technology in the future
