Harding Chess Students Continue to Win in City and State Championships!
Brent
It has been a busy few months for Harding's Chess Players.
On January 9, 2016, third graders Buren Bradley and Fuller Hessel competed at the Nashville City Championship after qualifying earlier in the school year. Buren tied for 1st Place in the Primary Section and Fuller, competing in his second City Championship, won 5th.
On January 30, 2016, several Harding students competed in the Regional Individual Qualifier. Fifth grader Chase Fields and Fuller Hessel and Buren Bradley all qualified to compete in the State Champsionship in Cookeville by placing within the top 8 of their sections. At State, Buren won 6th Place and Fuller won 8th Place in the Primary Section. Chase performed well with 1.5 wins in the extremely competitive Elementary Section.
At the most recent, and final, 2015-16 Scholastic Tournament held at Percy Priest, Harding students continued to perform excellently. The Elementary Team won 1st Place, despite being short one player. Winners were fifth graders Alex Wang (1st) and Owen Irving (2nd) and sixth grader Adam Wang (5th). The Primary Team won 4th Place, with only two players! Fuller Hessel won 1st Place and Buren Bradley won 3rd.
On March 5, 2016, Harding Teams will compete in the Regional Team Qualifier. We hope to continue our winning streak with both teams qualifying for the State Championships.
Congratulations to all our Harding Chess Players and good luck in March!
