Lady Generals Sail through Semis to Championship Game
Coach Holleman
The Harding Academy Varsity Girls defeated the No. 4 seeded Nashville Christian School 29-10 to advance to the GNAC tournament championship game for the second year in a row.
Maggie Cannata and Ellie Slagle combined for 10 first quarter points and the defense took over from there. After building a 16-7 halftime lead despite some foul trouble, the Lady Generals defense completely shut out the Lady Eagles as they turned up the heat in the third quarter to take a 23-7 lead into the final frame. Cannata led the way with a game-high 10 points, Abby Andrews scored 7 points, and Slagle added 4 points. Ellie Frist, Cece Bayliff and Elizabeth Perrone each tallied two points, and Catarina Carter and Lily Wilmoth each sank one free throw to round out the scoring. Anna Perrone, Wilmoth, Elizabeth Perrone and Lydia Beachum all provided key minutes off the bench, particularly in the second quarter. Up next, Harding faces No. 2 seeded Clarksville Academy, who defeated No. 3 seeded Merrol Hyde 14-7 in the other semifinal match-up. The girls championship game is set to tip off at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
