Varsity Girls Basketball Drops First Conference Game
Coach Chris Holleman
The Varsity Girls Basketball team dropped their first conference game to Poplar Grove School 27-24.
The Generals got out to a quick 6-0 lead, but Poplar Grove's Amelia Maxwell drained a 3 to cut the lead in half, leaving the Generals clinging to a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. From there, Poplar Grove's A J Anderson took over inside, using her tremendous size advantage to score all 8 of Poplar Grove's second quarter points and help shut out the Generals, who went into halftime down 16-10. The teams then exchanged buckets until late in the thrid when Maxwell drained another 3 to put Poplar Grove up 23-14. However, the Generals' pressure in the fourth finally wore Poplar Grove down enough to cut the lead to 3 with under a minute to go. Unfortunately, the Generals never got a good look to tie and fell 27-24. Abby Andrews led the Generals with 14 points, nearly matching Anderson point for point, and Zara Bracegirdle added 4.
