Saturday, November 9 our Chess Team competed in the Mid State Scholastic Chess Tournament at Christ the King. Harding students Fuller Hessel (1) and Buren Bradley (1) tied for 1st place with perfect scores of 5 wins out of 5 rounds! Following multiple tie breaks, Fuller went home with the 1st place trophy and Buren with the 2nd! The boys were competing in the kindergarten through second grade division. Jackson Miller (2) went home with the 8th place trophy, Cal Robinson (1) medaled at 14th place. Additional valuable members of our K-2 team were Jack Howard (1), Austin Tant (1), and Davis Dove (1).
As a team, Harding Academy won two 1st place Team Trophies in grade divisions K-2 and 3-4! Our members of the 3-4 chess team were Alex Wang (3) with 4 wins that sent him home with the 5th place trophy, Chase Fields (3) medaling at 11th, Adam Wang (4) medaling at 20th, Jack Pacconi (4), Conor Corby (3), Nathaniel Nelson (3), and Chase Franck (3). Cole Cahoon (5) went home with the 4th place trophy with 4 wins. Other members of the 5-6 grade division were Greydon Franck (5), and Kate Miller (5) who played extremely well in a difficult group. Each grade division was comprised of at least 48 chess competitors representing more than 20 middle Tennessee schools. Harding has definitely established a strong presence within the chess community.
