Harding Athletic Highlights 2/7-2/11

Harding Swimming
The HVAC Swimming Championships took place on Saturday, February 5th.  Harding completed 7 other HVAC schools.  The boys were runner ups and the girls placed sixth with a combined team place of 4th.

Mina Sanford was an HVAC Champion in the 100 Butterfly with an outstanding swim.  Also, Quincy Topping was a double HVAC Champion in the 200 IM and the 100 Freestyle where he set the HVAC Championship meet record at 50.53 seconds.

A huge thank you to all the swimming families for a wonderful season.

Varsity Boys Basketball Secures #1 Seed 
The varsity boys basketball team entered the game on Thursday, February 10 as the #1 seed in the HVAC Division A Tournament. With a win over Poplar Grove, the Hawks would secure the seed. The boys came out strong have never looked back. They had ten players get into the scoring column. Thomas Hicks led the team in scoring with 14 points. Christian Land and Quinn Taylor scored 10 points each. Van Roberts and Benton Wright added 9 points each and Sam Bowers chipped in 8 points in the win. The final score was 70-24. With the HVAC tournament starting today, the Hawks will receive a first round bye. They will play on Monday in the HVA semi-finals at Ensworth Red Gables campus at 6:15. Come out and support the Hawks as they compete for a HVAC Div. A championship!

Varsity Girls Basketball
The Harding Hawks girls' varsity basketball team capped off the regular season schedule with a victorious effort against Poplar Grove. Emerson Smith led all scorers with 22 points, while Hilary Fremont added a pair of fast break layups. The Hawks defense was tenacious from start to finish with a number of turnovers forced by Susan McCarley, Charlotte Mikos, Claire McDaniel and Margaux Brown throughout the contest. The win secured a first round BYE in the Div. A HVAC tournament. The girls will play next Tuesday, February 15 at 7:30pm at the Ensworth Red Gables campus in the semi-finals.

JV Boys Basketball Goes 2-2 In Final Week of Season
The JV Hawks finished their final week of the season on a high note, with a 40-14 victory over Poplar Grove School Thursday evening February 10. Will Bickley led the team in scoring with nine points. The Hawks started the week with a tough 44-41 loss to Curry Ingram. Benton Wright led the team with nine points. On Tuesday, the Hawks enjoyed a 37-17 win against Christ The King. Harding was led in scoring by Will Bickley with eleven points. On Wednesday, the JV Hawks lost a tough 38-23 decision to Battle Ground Academy. Will Bickley led the team with eight points.
 
The JV Harding Hawks finished the season with an 8-8 record. Throughout the season this team showed tremendous growth that any win/loss record will not reflect. In each game, every player performed with great effort. We are so proud of all of their accomplishments! Go Hawks!
