Harding Varsity Football Loses to Columbia Academy
Corby Lucas
On a short week, Harding traveled to Columbia to take on Columbia Academy. A slow start found the Hawks down 10-0 after a safety and a Lion touchdown just minutes into the game. The Hawks were a bit shell shocked and struggled to come up with any offense against a fast, aggressive Lion defense. Meanwhile, Columbia Academy rode a strong running game to two more first half touchdowns and a 24-0 halftime lead.
The coaching staff challenged the team to come out fighting in the second half and they did just that only giving up a safety while the Lions kept in their starters until deep into the 4th quarter. Jackson Lucas' pass fell just short of Quinn Taylor '23 as time expired with the Hawks trying to punch in a score. That pass was set up by a long completion from Lucas to tight end, Christian Land '22. Sam Bowers '22 was a consistent presence in the Lions' backfield from his inside linebacker position. Chase Embry '23 and Daniel Maumus '23 played solid games as part of the Hawk secondary as well.
Harding returns to action one final time next Thursday, Sept. 30 when it takes on Ensworth at EHS at 6:30pm. We would love a large Harding contingent to cheer us on! Go Hawks!!
