Varsity Baseball (March 8-12) The Varsity Baseball team had their first game of the season this past Tuesday with a matchup against FRA. The weather couldn't have been any better for this afternoon matchup, as the sun was shining and the temperature felt like springtime. Austin Tant started the game on the mound for the Hawks, and had a very strong outing. He pitched four innings and finished the game with the win, adding in six strikeouts while only allowing one hit. He also helped his cause from the batter's box, driving in two runs and adding an RBI double late in the game for an important insurance run. Jack Howard got the offense going in the third inning with a leadoff double over the centerfielder's head, and also added in a highlight defensive play as he made a diving catch at third base late in the game. Will Sanders was a menace on the bases as the leadoff hitter, reaching base three times on walks and adding in two stolen bases. Benton Wright closed the game out and earned the save, as the Hawks finished the game victorious with a 6-2 win. The team will head into Spring Break with a 1-0 record, and will look to build off their last win in their next game against Ensworth on March 25th. Go Hawks!
Hawks Keep Soaring The Hawks hosted Harpeth Hall on Wednesday afternoon and they started off where they left off last week. Taking a quick three goal lead which forced the Bears to use a time out inside of four minutes. Returning to the field the Hawks transitioned the ball down with smart outlet passes and banged in four more goals to take a 7-2 half time lead. Gracie Lucas, Maggie Soper, Kate Leschman, Carter Floyd, and Caroline Viars all authored goals. The defense led by Emerson Smith, Neko Mannes and Susan McCarley was physical as they caused turnovers. The defense also put themselves in good position to knock down or intercept passes. It was a solid TEAM performance which gave the Hawks a convincing win. We look forward to keep grinding it out when we get back from spring break.
