Harding Academy Varsity Girls Heat Up to Defeat Clarksville Academy

Coach Holleman
Following an unseasonably warm winter day, the Harding Academy Varsity Girls basketball team brought the heat inside Roberts Gymnasium in a 46-28 win over conference foe Clarksville Academy.

Dialing up pressure the full length of the court, the home-standing Generals forced turnover after turnover, which Carly Frist turned into 8 first quarter points, while Annelise Kyzer and Riley Jones controlled the paint at both ends of the court and each added a bucket to stake Harding to a 12-2 lead after the first frame.  The second quarter featured more of the same with Carly Frist scoring another 6 points and Jones and Reese Turner pounding the paint for a combined 4 points.  But, the team's pressure, hustle and effort was epitomized by Grace Moore who, after converting two free-throw attempts earlier in the quarter, managed to convert a steal into a bucket just as the final seconds rolled off a first half in which Harding took a commanding 26-11 lead.

In the third quarter the home team pressed their advantage on the inside at both ends, as Jones added two more baskets and Kyzer converted an old-fashioned 3-point play.  Beginning the fourth quarter with a 35-19 lead, the Generals quickly extended their lead to 20 points before turning the game over to their reserves to continue to do battle with Clarksville Academy's starters.  Answering the call with aggressive play were Turner with 2 fourth quarter buckets, Emerson Bone with a successful 2-for-2 trip to the line, and Anna Lindsley and Evie Frist with suffocating defense.  Particularly noteworthy was the inspired play of Avery Cooper, who picked up a block, several rebounds and a nice inside bucket in traffic.

Carly Frist led all scorers with 16 points.  Also scoring for the Generals were Jones with 9 points, Moore with 6 points, Kyzer and Turner with 5 points each, and Bone and Cooper with 2 points each.  Gabby Land added a free-throw to round out the scoring.  Harding Academy (2-4, 2-2) next travels to Friendship Christian School for an early Wednesday afternoon tip-off to complete a set of back-to-back conference games.
