JV B Generals (6th grade) @ Dr. Hovenden Classic Tournament, Friday 17th & Saturday 18th.
We began tournament against the host team, Sumner Academy, for our first game. The Generals came out very aggressive on both sides of the basketball, shutting out Sumner in the first half. Half time score was 15-0. Harding Academy continued the momentum gained in first half to end the game with a 35-4 win over Sumner Academy. Harding then advanced to Saturday’s game @ 9am against DCA. Our second game of the tournament against DCA was a thriller. A lot of back and forth transition game. It was a high scoring game. The Generals fell behind at half to DCA with a score of 29-20. The 3rd quarter was huge for Harding, coming out and outscoring DCA 21-10 to take a lead going into the 4th quarter. But, the Generals came up short in the closing minutes due to turnovers and fouls to lose 52-50 to DCA. There was a lot of energy spent in this game but we had to turn around and play again at 11:30am against Good Pasture. Our last game of the tournament was against Good Pasture. Good Pasture came out guns blazing offensively and took a lofty lead of 27-2 going into half. The Generals played a better defensive game in the second half, only allowing 8 points. But, Harding Academy came up short offensively to lose to Good Pasture with a final score of 36-9. Good Pasture advanced to the Championship game against DCA. DCA went on to win the Dr. Hovenden Classic Tournament. Haynes Owen 5, William Tyrone 2, Alex Ray 2.
