Lindsay Mallard Rauth '90
As a pediatrician in private practice, Lindsay Mallard Rauth, M.D., finds building relationships to be the most rewarding aspect of her work. “For me as a pediatrician, I obviously want to take care of the whole family,” she says. “I love my patients and want to get to know the families because I think understanding where they come from helps with making sure that you are the best doctor that you can be for them.” Lindsay says of her families, “I trust them, and they trust me, and it’s just fun when they walk in the door.”
Lindsay became a doctor in part thanks to the influence of her father, also a pediatrician. But she notes that Harding played a role as well. She says, “Harding was a very nurturing environment for me, and I think that helped me to be able to care for other people.” The former cheerleader, who attended Harding from first through eighth grade, also says, “I loved my friends and was a hard worker. I had great teachers, and they made me want to learn.”
After Harding, Lindsay attended Harpeth Hall, where she was the salutatorian of the class of 1994. After graduating from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, in 1998 with Phi Beta Kappa honors, she attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and then completed her pediatric residency at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
A member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Lindsay is currently in private practice with Heritage Medical Associates in Nashville. She maintains a busy work schedule that also allows her to spend time with her children. She and husband Thomas Rauth, M.D., a surgeon, have two daughters under the age of three. Lindsay hopes someday they’ll have the opportunity to attend Harding. “Probably almost every weekend I go for walks around Harding and I get to show my girls where I went to school,” she says, “and they think that’s really fun.”
