Harding Athletic Highlights - January 27, 2023

Varsity Boys Basketball Goes 1-2 This Week
The Hawks traveled to Valor Collegiate on Monday, January 23. The boys took control of the game earlier and won 55-28. Chase Embry led the team with his court vision, several assists, and 12 points. Quinn Taylor went 4-4 from the line and finished with 16 points. Eli Russ pumped in 11 points. Jackson Lucas added 6 points and Briggs Waddey added 5 points. It was one of their higher scoring games of the season. Great win Hawks!

In the second game of the week, the Hawks traveled to play Pope Prep on Tuesday, January 24. This game was a hard fought contest. At the half, the Hawks were down 17-16. The Knights had a big offensive output in the second half. The final score was 46-35 in favor of Pope Prep. We had three players get into the scoring column. Quinn Taylor 16, Eli Russ 15, and Chase Embry 4. 

On Thursday, January 26 the Hawks hosted the Eagles from Brentwood Academy. The Eagles were ready from the tip off. They took a 28-8 halftime lead. However, in the second half, the Hawks outscored the Eagles 20-16 with great team defense. Quinn Taylor had an awesome game. He led all scorer's and finished with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, and 1 assist. Chase Embry finished with 5 assists and 3 points. The final score was 44-28 in favor of the Eagles.

Harding Development Basketball- White wins 25-23 to tie series 2-2
Harding's Boy's development team was back in action as Harding White came out with a close victory over Harding Navy 25-23. It was constant action from the tip with Navy taking a 8 point lead going into the half. Coming out of the half Harding White went on a roll scoring 10 unanswered points. it was a back and forth game until the end with Navy having one chance with 4 second left but they could not capitalize.

Harding White was led in scoring by Wells Rick with 10 points followed by Mattia Zanetti with 8 points. Also helping out with scoring was Van Peterson with 4 points, Sebastian Muller with 2 points and Ruaire Shaver with 1 point.

Harding Navy was led in scoring by Thomas Freeman with 9 points followed by Mateo Lyn-Cook with 5 points. Also scoring was Crawford Huber with 4 points and Hayden Ligon and Jack Eyler both with 2 points.

Girls Developmental Basketball
Girls' Developmental Basketball played their 5th game January 23rd. The white team coached by Coach Vogt came out victorious with a 16-11 win. Fielding Moloney led the way scoring with 3, 2-pointers. Grier Skeen and Reagan Reynolds each scored two 2-pointers and Grace Thigpen added in a basket completing the scoring for the white team. On the blue team, Jamie Gaddie Embry scored a game high 8 points while Keaton Reavis scored her first basket of the season. Anne McCarely added in a free throw to bring the blue teams total to 11. The Hawks play again on Tuesday January 31st at 4:30.

Harding Swimming
The Harding Swim team continues to get stronger in the water. Last week, Harding competed in a swim meet with Ensworth, USN, and CPA. Many swimmers got up to race, and finished with a best time. Maya Florie dropped time in both her 100 free and 50 free. Adrienne Numbers swam the 100 back for the first time in a meet, and did so with power and grace. Way to go team!
