Harding Athletic Highlights - January 13, 2023
Varsity Boys Basketball Defeats MBA 44-43
The Hawks welcomed MBA to the Robert's Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 11. This was a great game from start to finish. At the half, the Big Red had the lead 26-23. In the third quarter, the Hawks came out a blazing. They outscored MBA 15 to 7. With the defensive effort and offensive execution, the Hawks led 38-36 after three quarters. Going into the fourth quarter both teams battled hard. MBA had one last shot to seal the win, but the Hawks stopped them on their last possession to get the conference win 44-43. Quinn Taylor led all scorer's with 17 points. Eli Russ made some huge baskets in the fourth to finish with 13 points. Mckinley Bradshaw hit two big three's to finish with 8 points. Jackson Lucas did a great job on the boards and Chase Embry led the Hawks with his defensive effort on the ball and by orchestrating the offense throughout the game with 8 assists. It was an awesome win for the boys! Next week, the Hawks will travel to USN on Tuesday for a 5:00 start and they will host Ensworth on Wednesday at 5:00. Come out and support the Hawks!
Girls' Varsity Basketball Highlights (January 9-13)
The Harding girls’ basketball team had two home games on the schedule for this week. On Tuesday afternoon, they hosted the Panthers from Franklin Road Academy. The Hawks started a little sluggish offensively, as the Panthers were very disciplined in their half court defense. Harding struggled with ball security, and the Panthers’ defensive pressure led to some easy fastbreak chances on the other end. Hilary Fremont ‘24 provided a much needed spark with her hustle play on both ends, and led the team in scoring with six points. In the end, the Hawks fell to the Panthers by a score of 41-9. The very next day, the Hawks had another home game as they hosted the Honey Bears from Harpeth Hall. The Hawks started off slow in the first half, but settled in much more after halftime. Caroline Sheets ‘25 hit two deep three-pointers in the fourth quarter, and led the team in scoring for the game. Riley Schenk ‘24 played her best game of the season, playing some quality defense inside and leading the team in rebounds. The Hawks outscored their opponent 8-2 in the fourth quarter, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit from the first half. However, it did create some momentum as they prepare to head to USN for their next game next Tuesday afternoon at 4:00pm. Go Hawks!
