From the Desk of the Head of School- May 3, 2019

Dear Parents,

There’s a lot happening today on campus. Of course, the 44th Annual Harding Art Show is hard to miss and last night’s opening night was a huge success. Today has been busy at the Art Show, as well. It is a unique model in that school and the regular day-to-day routine continues amidst the art-goers. Specifically, we hosted our newly enrolled future 5th graders on campus to get to know their soon-to-be-classmates and teachers.

Our new students were met by assigned “Buddies” who spent time with Mrs. Arnold yesterday training as hosts. We had an ice cream sundae social and then convened as a group and welcomed our new students into a grade level meeting - a time honored 4th grade tradition on Fridays. Our visiting students had been interviewed by their Buddies and they shared some interesting tidbits about themselves. Our 5th grade teachers joined the circle and introduced themselves and enjoyed getting to know the grade they will soon inherit. Finally, each student was encouraged to share a compliment about a peer and it was in these moments that our Community Code was, once again, breathed into life - so much so, that even some of the new students raised their hands and offered their compliments to their Buddy hosts.

We will welcome 88 new students and 43 new families to Harding Academy next year. Our students taking time to connect in ways like they did today exemplifies how we continue to thrive as a learning community committed to educating and inspiring young people to become thoughtful, creative, lifelong learners and self-disciplined, responsible, caring citizens.
