Important Kids Marathon Information

Suzanne Griffin
To help make this season a success, please note the following things:

*Participants:
Second graders through fifth graders are allowed to participate in practices without a parent/guardian.
Kindergarten and first graders MUST have a parent/guardian running with them to participate in practices.  If a child arrives at practice without a guardian, he/she will be taken to Pursuit.

*Practice Information:  Practices will be held every Tuesday and Thursday beginning March 1 and continuing through April 26.  We will not have practice March 17, 22, and 24.  We will run a total of two miles at each practice, with the exception of running one mile on April 26.  This will give us a total of 25 miles.  We will run the final “marathon mile” together on Friday, April 29 immediately after school.  (This is Field Day and a half day.)

*Practice Times:  We meet in the first grade wing at dismissal (3:00) and wrap-up at 3:45 in front of the kindergarten building.

*Wacky Runs: For the sake of just being silly, we may have some “wacky run” days.  This may involve running in something ridiculous…..wigs, hats, wings…...I’ll keep you posted!

*Hook-Up:  Please plan on picking your child up at the top of the hook-up line at 3:45.  Stay in the right lane to allow other traffic to pass through the hook-up line.  If your child has not been picked up by 4:00, he or she will be walked to Pursuit.  Please let me know ahead of time if your child needs to go directly to Pursuit or to any other on-campus activity, and we will safely get him/her there.

*Practice Parent Volunteers:  We need volunteer runners/walkers for every practice!  Ideally, I would like to have a minimum of two parent volunteers at each practice.  This ensures the safety of our children and means that we can actually run through the Belle Meade Links (as opposed to loops around Kever.)  Participants range in abilities, so all helpers are welcome!  It would also be a huge help if we had a parent volunteer to bring in popsicles for the end of our runs.  (We do this in fall Cross Country, too!)  The link to sign up as a volunteer is here: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0945A5AD28ABF58-harding
**Let me know if you have trouble with the sign-up genius!**

*Inclement Weather:  If I need to cancel practice due to inclement weather, I will send a team email by 2:00.  I will also let the front desk and Carolee Kazmerowski (Lower School office) know.  You may call them if you are unable to access your email.

“Final Mile Day”:
We will be running our final “marathon mile” together at Harding on April 29th.  April 29th is Harding’s Field Day.  Kids Marathon runners will meet together at dismissal (similar to a practice) to run our “final mile” together.  This final mile will be followed by some fun awards and celebratory ice cream sundaes!  If you choose to participate in the Kids Marathon event downtown on Sunday, May 1, please note that a Harding sponsor will not be present, and you and your child will be attending independently.  I will be resting at home from having run the Nashville Half-Marathon the day before!  :)

*Team T-Shirts:
Team shirts are fun to have, but they are optional.  Those who have participated in Kids Marathon previously may already have a t-shirt.  If you do not have a t-shirt or would like to order a new one, I will let you know of the cost in a separate email. Please email me and let me know that you would like a shirt.  Previous year’s shirts were pink.  I would like to branch out and get something different this year - perhaps tie-dyed?  You may send in a check for the amount made out to Harding Academy.
