Hawks Lose Tough Match to MBA The Harding Hawk varsity wrestlers took to the mats for their second dual meet of the 2021 season on Thursday. Montgomery Bell Academy came out on top winning all but one match, but several Harding wrestlers made significant improvements from match one to match two. Jacob Johnson '24 came out victorious with a pin in one of his exhibition matches. Grant Song '23 went toe to toe with a much more experienced wrestler and had the match at 4-4 in the second period before ultimately running out of steam. Several Harding wrestlers faced their first competition of the year and gained valuable experience.
JV Girls Soccer vs. Poplar Grove School The Junior Varsity girls' soccer team returned to the field on Wednesday night, falling to Poplar Grove by a score of 3-1. Elliana Galentino scored the lone goal on the afternoon for the Hawks. Margaux Brown and Ella Jones impressed with their passing and work in the midfield. Team captain Stella Frisbee shined with her on-field leadership and defensive prowess. The girls will play a pair of away matches this upcoming week against Harpeth Hall on Monday, November 1 and Ensworth School on Wednesday, November 3.
Varsity Girls Soccer The Hawks had a busy week with three games. They went 1-2 having a win vs. Valor and losses to FRA and Poplar Grove. In the win, the girls showed confidence as they possessed the ball well and finished with conviction. The defense once again was stingy in helping us not allow a goal to be scored. Hilary Fremont '24 authored two goals and an assist. Carter Floyd '22, Maddie Yeatman '22 and Neko Mannes '22 each had a goal as well. Hannah Sides '24 showed relentless hustle in the midfield and assisted a goal. Both losses came in the final minutes of the game. The girls had their chances but could not find the back of the net! Both games were very physical and hard fought. Leah Fremont '22 led the defense with timely clears and denials. Emerson Smith '22, once again, was stout in goal keeping for the Hawks in the games. Newcomer, Olivia Zanetti '22, was a physical force as a forward and becoming a threat to score very soon. The girls have two games next week at Harpeth Hall and Ensworth. There's no denying their effort and grit as they look to bounce back on that winning track.
Tough Loss vs. USN for JV Boys Soccer This was a competitive back and forth game where both teams created several scoring opportunities. Unfortunately we weren't able to capitalize on enough of the chances we created. All the players are making huge strides overall but everyone is learning that it only takes an extra touch, a bad angle, or a missed pass to turn the tide of the game. My message to the team is always the same in games like these, A loss overall is a learning experience, that every player should use to their advantage. Don't look down on a loss as something to ignore, but something to analyze and study. Losing is a part of every game that is played and a loss will be what you make of it.
Varsity Boys Soccer Loses To USN 4-1 After receiving a corner, Thomas Hicks put the goal in the net to tie USN 1-1. Great plays by Max Miller, Eli Russ, Quincy Topping on defense. Walt Sanders and Hudson Drake gave some nice through balls to the offense during the game. George Boero had an especially impressive game, deflecting several impossible shots by the opponents to keep the score close.
