Varsity Girls Basketball Advances To HVAC Finals
The varsity girls basketball team had two big wins to set the stage in the HVAC finals vs. Pope Prep. On Wednesday, February 7 the Hawks traveled to FRA. This was a great game that went to double overtime with the Hawks coming out on top 33-28. Louisa Smith led the team in scoring with 9 points. Riley Schenk pumped in 8 points. Hilary Fremont added 6 points and Margaux Brown made two clutch shots in the fourth quarter to finish with 5 points. This was a great team effort that propelled them forward into the HVAC semifinals.

On Monday, February 12 the team traveled back to FRA to play St. Cecilia Academy in the second semifinal of the day in the HVAC tournament. This was a defensive battle from the start. After the first quarter, the score was tied 6-6. This game went back and forth over the next two quarters. Going into the fourth quarter, the score was 20-16 in favor of SCA. However, the Hawks would not be denied. The defensive effort and the will to win was noticed by all. Louisa Smith hit a huge 3 and Margaux Brown made a big 2 to seal the win 21-20. It was an awesome come from behind win that advanced the Hawks into the HVAC finals. Margaux Brown and Riley Schenk led the team in scoring with 6 points each.

On Wednesday, February 14 the girls took on the #1 seed Pope Prep in the finals. The Hawks went down 9-7 after the first quarter. It was a very equal match to that point with the support from the student body in the stands. At the end of the first half, the score was 23-12 in favor of Pope Prep. The offensive output was just too much for the Hawks in the second half with the final score being 43-21. Louisa Smith and Riley Schenk led the team in scoring with 8 points each. Coach Wainwright and I couldn't be more proud of these girls. This team worked so hard and competed every minute and every second in all of our games and practices. I hope the girls build on this for the future teams down the road. Way to go HAWKS!

Varsity Boys Basketball Gets Comeback Win vs Poplar Grove School
The Harding Hawks battled adversity throughout the game on February 2nd. Foul trouble plagued the Hawks early on eventually seeing two players foul out and two more with four fouls. Despite all of that the boys continued to fight and claw never giving up. Beginning the 4th quarter Harding still had a 6 point deficit to overcome and one big play at a time the comeback began. The Hawks exploded on offense led by Luke Anderson with 7pts in the fourth quarter alone and 9pts total. Robert Topping led the Hawks with 10pts and Sam Hamm also contributed 8pts, 2 of which came when the Hawks needed it most. After a huge Walt Sanders jump shot to tie the game with under a minute to go the boys forced yet another PGS turnover. On the offensive possession Sam Hamm found himself in the paint with the ball and a tie game. With a beautiful left handed hook Sam hit the go ahead bucket that would put the Hawks up for good. This was a huge team effort with each individual making winning plays and fighting until the very end.
