Varsity Girls Basketball Finishes The Season in the HVAC Semifinals
The Harding girls’ varsity basketball team opened up postseason play hosting USN in the first round of the HVAC tournament this past Friday afternoon. The Hawks got off to a hot start thanks to their full-court pressure defense which made the Tigers commit a handful of turnovers leading to high-percentage shots. The Hawks went into halftime with a 23-7 lead. Hilary Fremont ‘24 led the team offensively with 16 points, and Margaux Brown ‘24 added 12 points and was a key facilitator for her team’s offense throughout the game. The Hawks were able to hold on for a 34-20 win and a chance to play in the semifinal game. The following Tuesday, the Hawks traveled to FRA for the semifinal game against Pope Prep. Greer Bodzy ‘23 opened up the scoring for the Hawks early with a corner three, giving the Hawks some confidence offensively. It was a defensive battle in the first half, as both teams struggled to take care of the basketball. Pope Prep went into halftime leading by a score of 10-5. The Hawks ended up making a run in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as they struggled to score the ball consistently throughout the game. The Hawks’ season concluded as they lost by a final score of 27-14, however, the improvement the team was able to make from the beginning of the season leaves a lot for them to be proud of. Great job Hawks!
