From the Desk of the Head of School- January 13, 2023

Dear Harding Academy Learning Community,

This week, our community welcomed our first Artist in Residency, Graphic Recorder Brittany Curry to campus. Brittany taught students about the process of visual mapping through drawing and writing exercises in their art classes. On Tuesday, Brittany created a graphic recording of the Dr. Martin Luther King assembly that can be seen here. During Late Start Wednesday, Brittany collaborated with our faculty and staff encouraging them to unbuckle the invisible seat belt of self-doubt and give ourselves "permission to play without expectation". Thank you to our Lower School Art Teacher Karen Kwarciak and Middle School Art Teacher Bailey Woods for their work in hosting Brittany Curry.

On Tuesday, our second grade students brought their Harding Spirit to cheer on the basketball teams. It was so great to end the week of spirit games with a BIG WIN over MBA for our Varsity Boys Basketball team. Finally, we are seeing a record number of Summer Program registrations coming in - evidence of the excitement surrounding our school’s programs and offerings.

Seeing our campus filled with school spirit, guest artists, risk-taking, and learning a new skill, I am once again inspired by the impact of our mission to educate and inspire young people to become thoughtful, creative, lifelong learners and self-disciplined, responsible, caring citizens.

Have a great weekend.
