From the Desk of the Head of School- November 4, 2022

Dear Harding Academy Learning Community,

We have been the beneficiaries of wonderful weather here at Harding Academy during the second half of the week. It is hard to believe the wet weather of Halloween was what launched this week! Congratulations to Señora Derrick and her advisory, who won the annual middle school Halloween skit contest - again.

The Second Harvest Food Drive has officially kicked off! You may have seen the red bags coming home. This annual drive helps us to meet the tremendous demand of Middle Tennessee when it comes to food security for many of our neighbors. Our goal is to fill 100 boxes, which will provide over 8,000 meals for those in need in Middle Tennessee. Please consider a conversation with your family about the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee and how you can help over these next two weeks. We have also created an Amazon list for the greater Harding community to contribute to this important cause.

This week also saw our students travel in imagination - from our Native American and Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month assembly with guest, Larry Yazzie, to the family of alumni Aliza Ahmed ‘22, who brought baklava for 7th grade students to sample as they finished their novel, Everything Sad is Untrue. Our 4th and 5th grade math students ventured to Percy Warner Park, where they engaged in a variety of natural math activities. Finally, our PreK began their citizenship lessons and have their voting booth set up in anticipation of election day on Tuesday, November 8.

I hope you all were able to read Moira Clark’s email earlier today regarding the flu. Please be safe and wash hands often! I look forward to seeing everybody on Monday.
