Harding Athletic Highlights - September 16, 2022

Jason Embry
Hawks Shutout FRA Panthers
The Harding Academy Hawks traveled to Franklin Road Academy on Thursday, September 15 for a game against the Panthers. After FRA took the opening kickoff and drove down the field eating up the entire first quarter of the game, Harding was able to get a defensive stop on a 4th and 1 at the 10 yard line. Jackson Lucas '23 then hit Quinn Taylor '23 for a 90 yd. touchdown pass to completely swing the momentum. Daniel Maumus '23 caught the 2 pt. conversion attempt and Harding never looked back.

The Hawks drove deep into Panther territory towards the end of the second quarter aided by a fade pass from Lucas to Chase Embry '23. Embry made a spectacular catch adjusting to the ball, but Harding was unable to score with time running down and headed to the half up 8-0.

In the second half, Harding's passing game caught fire. Lucas hit Chris White '23 on a bubble screen with White doing the rest of the work taking it the distance for a touchdown. Quinn Taylor caught the 2 pt. conversion and Harding increased its lead to 16-0. The Lucas to Taylor connection struck again later in the third quarter on another long touchdown pass. The 2 pt. conversion failed this time setting the final score at 22-0 in favor of the Hawks.

After the first offensive drive for FRA, Harding's defense locked in and never allowed the Panthers to get back into the red zone. It was a total team effort in all 3 phases of the game and the most complete game effort the Hawks have had in the 2022 season.

Harding has a week off next week before hosting the Ensworth Tigers for its annual spirit game on Thursday, September 29 at 5:00pm at Sohr Family Track and Field. Harding will take a 3-1 record into its final game of the year. We hope for a capacity crowd so come out and support the Hawks!
