Varsity Baseball Wins Opener 3-2 The Harding baseball team returned from their spring break with a couple big games near the end of the week. On Thursday, the Hawks squared off for a league game against Ensworth. After a quick top half of the first inning, Sam Bowers got the offense rolling with a leadoff double to left field. Bowers continued to wreak havoc in the frame with his aggressive base running, eventually taking the early lead by scoring on a straight steal of home with two outs. RJ Perkins played his first game of the season after returning from a back injury, and made an impact by scoring a go ahead run later on in the third inning. Camden Haren had a great game offensively; even though he didn’t record a base hit, he led the team with three quality at bats. The game went back and forth throughout, and included five different lead changes. Ultimately a late run scored in the bottom of the fourth inning by Jackson Husbands would be the difference, as the Hawks came out victorious by a score of 3-2. Benton Wright had another strong outing on the mound to earn the win, pitching five innings while striking out six. The team looks to take the momentum into a Friday afternoon matchup, as they head into the heart of their season in the coming weeks. Go Hawks!
