We wanted to be in touch with some important information about basketball season at Harding Academy. An adaptation we made to Covid last year was to create a developmental team on the boys side which proved to be a huge success for the growth of those less experienced players. We played a series of intrasquad "blue vs. white" games where officials were assigned and they played games against each other in our gym. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and so we have decided to keep that model moving forward. This year, we would like to replicate that model on the girls side as well.

Our boys participation numbers are traditionally in the mid 40's and our girls in the mid 20's so that consideration has to be taken into account. The numbers may be such that we only have a varsity girls team and a developmental team. We feel a situation where our girls can learn and develop while playing against each other is much better than playing opponents who cut players and have JV teams that may be as talented as some varsity teams in the league.

Please reach out to Coach Jason Embry for any questions on the boys program or Coach Luke Countryman for any questions on the girls program. We are confident this is the best model for development in our basketball program.

Varsity Girls Tennis Ties For Second Place in HVAC Tournament
The girls tennis team finished tied for second place in the HVAC tennis tournament on Monday. Leah Fremont made it to the finals of the #2 singles position, playing some of her best tennis this season. She came up against a very consistent player from CPA in the finals that proved too strong. Charlotte Mikos played well, making it to the semi finals, and came up short against a very powerful player from Poplar Grove. Despite beating this player in the regular season, Charlotte fought brilliantly in her #1 singles match. Hannah Sides earned the #1 seed in the #3 singles bracket, but lost to a much improved player from CPA. Elliott Moloney and Maddie Yeatman made it to the finals of the #1 doubles bracket, however, due to illness they were not able to compete in the finals. Greer Bodzy and Frances Strauss played well to make it to the semi finals in the #2 doubles position. Caroline Vrettos was the team's best cheerleader, despite not being in the line-up, Caroline made posters for the players and stayed for the very last match, cheering the team on to success! The team finished tied on points with FRA. Congratulations girls!

Varsity Boys Tennis Competes in HVAC Tournament
The boys varsity tennis team took runner-up in this years HVAC Division A conference tournament behind a full team effort. All of our competing Hawks won opening round matches and advanced to the semi-finals. Ethan Sides '22 and Max Miller '22 had grueling singles semifinals and competed to the very last point. Maxwell Beauchamp '22 and Benton Wright '22 also battled well into the night in their doubles semi-final match. Jackson Husbands '22, competing in the 2nd singles line and the combination of Henry Anderson '24 and Walt Sanders '24, competing in the 2nd doubles line, advanced to the second day of competition! Jackson played marvelously and held on to win a hard fought championship match. While Henry and Walt had to play both the semi and championship on the same day. After cruising through the semi-final, and finding themselves down in the championship, both boys fought back and held their ground, finishing with 5 consecutive game wins, and securing the 2nd doubles championship, and ultimately the runner-up position for the team score. It was a great season and a wonderful example of excellence in character both on and off the court! Go Hawks!!
