Harding Athletic Highlights 4/26-4/30
Varsity Baseball (April 26-30)
The Harding Baseball team finished off their regular season schedule last week, and earned the top overall seed as they headed into the HVAC tournament. Since they were the number one overall seed in the bracket, they earned a first round bye and prepared for a Tuesday afternoon semifinal matchup versus JT Moore. Harding’s bats came alive as they scored 15 runs over the course of the game, with each player in the lineup reaching base safely at least once. Matthew Wenkoff broke the game open in the fourth inning, blasting a grand slam over the left field fence on the first pitch of his at bat. JD Codispoti kept the offense going in the following inning, blasting a drive of his own over the right field fence for the Hawks’ second grand slam of the game; JD finished with six RBI’s in the game. Benton Wright was an anchor on the mound only allowing one hit in five innings of work, eventually earning the win. The Hawks won by a final score of 15-3, and will move on to host Lipscomb Academy in the tournament championship game this coming Monday, May 3 at 4:30pm. Go Hawks!
Big Win For Varsity Boys Lacrosse To End The Season
We finished off the season with a big win over the Hendersonville Spartans 11-4. The defense played a tremendous game with 11 Takeaways and holding the Spartans to just 4 shots (all in the 4th quarter). We were led in Ground Balls by Alex Maddox (9), Quinn Taylor (5) with Camden, Hunter, Dylan, Jackson L., Jackson B., Mac and Max all with (2) Ground Balls each. The scoring was led by Dylan Drake with (5) Goals and (1) Assist and Camden Haren with (2) Goals and (2) Assists. Also scoring for the HAWKS were Jackson Lucas, Alex Maddox, Jackson Bergmann and Quinn Taylor with (1) Goal each. Alex Maddox and Jackson Bergmann also had (1) Assist. The Team finished the season with a record of 4-4-1. Way to go HAWKS.
Varsity Girls Lacrosse Season Comes To An End
The varsity girls lacrosse team's season has come to an end. On a late Wednesday afternoon the the team faced Woodland's lacrosse club in the city semi final. Woodland came in as the one seed and the 3 time defending city champions. The Hawks put on a valiant and gritty effort but fell short in a sudden victory overtime (9-10). The Hawks had their chances and even posted a two goal lead in the bottom of the second half but could not hold on. Gracie Lucas 4 goals, Caroline Viars 2 goals, Carter Floyd 1 goal, Evie Frisk 1 goal, Kate Leschmen 1 goal, Maggie Soper 1 goal, and Mia Sjursen 11 saves! The girls had an inspiring season and proved to many they belong! Thank you to our 8th graders who showed leadership, determination, and heart. This group will truly be missed.
