Track and Field at USN Meet

We had a great meet this past Friday, April 9. We have some real "gamers" at HA and our athletes stepped up in a number of ways.
1) Top props go to Will Glover. Due to a warm up injury to one of our regular hurdlers, we needed a replacement for the hurdle relay. Hurdles events are no joke, as the event is a skill that must be learned, not simply 'done'. Though he had practiced hurdles very little this year (compared to last year), Will volunteered to help his teammates out...and he ran great. If you see Will, give him a shout, because his efforts exhibited exemplary sports courage and team commitment.
2) Emily McKay was one of our top performers. Emily was not able to run our first meet and was apprehensive of performing. Well, not only did Emily run some of the fastest Harding Academy splits in her two relay events, but she also won the shot put and was 2nd in the discus.
3) I could honestly go on and on about how darn proud of our team me and the other coaches. Honestly, if you are like me, just having something to cheer about again (sports-wise) feels terrific (compared to last year when everything was cancelled).

Varsity Boys Lacrosse Loses to Hendersonville Lacrosse Club
After two weeks of COVID-19 issues and still not at full strength, we were soundly defeated by the Hendersonville "Knights" 3-15 at home. Unfortunately we didn't have a volunteer as a spotter or statistician so I don't have much in the way of game stats. We were led in scoring by Dylan Drake with 2 goals and Jackson Bergmann with 1 goal. Jimmy Murphy did a great job in goal during the second half with 6 saves, with most of the shots coming from right in front of the goal.
Varsity Girls Lacrosse
The Hawks had a long week! They played four games going 2-2. The two games the won they won by a pretty good margin, however, the 2 they lost were both by one goal. The team did make it to the HVAC Finals as the number one seed. They finished the regular season undefeated in conference play, however, they came up short loosing 7-8 to Ensworth. The effort was there but the Hawks just couldn't get the result they wanted. The girls' are still alive in the City Tournament as the 4th seed and will host Page Middle school Monday, April 26 at 430 pm. Come on out if you can and support your Hawks!

The players gave it their all and we stuck with them through the 1st half but couldn't in the second for a disappointing (2-8) loss. We were outshot (14-8) and outscored (6-0) in the second half which was the difference in the game. We were led in scoring by Jackson Lucas and Jackson Bergmann with 1 goal each and led in ground balls by Alex Maddox with 6 and Camden Haren with 5. Jimmy Murphy and Hudson Strnad had a outstanding games in goal. Jimmy had 2 saves in the 1st half and Hudson Strnad had 4 saves in the 2nd half.

The Harding Baseball team is heading into the homestretch of their season, and only had one game this past Wednesday against BGA to finish out their regular season schedule. The Hawks found themselves short a few starters in their lineup, but played hard until the end. Buren Bradley was the highlight of the game offensively, driving a ball to the gap in left center for an RBI in the 2nd inning. JD Codispoti scored both the team’s runs of the game on two walks. Unfortunately, the bats got cold for the Hawks and BGA was able to hold off for a win. Harding is looking ahead to next week as the HVAC Tournament begins Monday. The Hawks have solidified their spot as the number one overall seed in the A bracket, and will have a first round bye. They will host the winner of USN & JT Moore in the semi-final game next Tuesday, April 27th. If they win Tuesday, they will host the championship game on Wednesday, April 28th. Go Hawks!

JV Girls Lacrosse
The JV girls lacrosse team ended their season with a 6-8 loss to Woodland Middle School. Although the outcome was not a win for the Hawks, the coaches saw a tremendous amount of improvement from all players on the field. Kenzie Miller had a huge impact on the Hawks defense making 4 interceptions in the first half. Narcissa Broome and Reagan Militante made their season debut as midfielders. Maggie Hardin scored her first goal of the season and Elliot Moloney made multiple saves in net keeping the game close all the way to final buzzer.
