Harding Athletic Highlights 3/29-4/1

Varsity Girls Lacrosse Is Flying High
On a chilly afternoon the Hawks hosted the Tigers of USN.  Once again strong play from our midfielders Evie FristKate Leschen and Gracie Lucas set the tone for a successful outcome.  Gaining possession helped the Hawks score early and often.  Maggie Soper led the attack as she exploded for 5 goals along with 2 assists.  Her drive proved to be infectious for attackers Caroline ViarsMeg Winston and Carter Floyd who also got into the mix authoring goals of their own.  The defense was stingy and led by a feisty Lexi Lampka.  Strong, smart, and physical play proved to be to much for USN.  Mia Sjursen and Elliot Moloney benefited from the defensive play and had a combined 8 saves.  All in all a solid TEAM win.  The Hawks are now 3-0 leading in the HVAC and look forward to start city play.

Varsity Baseball (March 29-April 1)
After a very wet, rainy weekend in Nashville, the Harding Varsity baseball team found their Monday matchup against Ensworth cancelled due to field conditions. This game has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 6th at 4:00PM. On Wednesday, the Hawks traveled to USN River Campus for a cold, windy matchup against the Tigers. Benton Wright took the mound and threw four strong innings, striking out seven and only allowing one earned run. Cal Robinson was very consistent from behind the plate, and added a hard-hit RBI single early in the game to get the offense going. The turning point in the game was in the top of the 5th inning, where the Hawks put up six runs to take the lead 8-3. Austin Tant came in to pitch the bottom of the 5th inning in relief, striking out the final hitter of the game looking on a nasty, knee-buckling curveball. The Hawks came out victorious by a final score of 8-3 to improve the team’s record to 2-0 on the season. Next week, the team will try and keep the momentum going heading into a busy week with three separate games against Ensworth, MBA, and CPA. Go Hawks!

JV Baseball (March 29-April 1)
The afternoon sun was shining down as the JV Haws took the field against MBA for the first game of the season this past Tuesday, March 30th. Anticipation was building as Eli Russ walked to the mound. While pitching a fantastic first couple of innings, two runs crossed the plate due to fielding errors. As the game progressed and the pitch count increased, the coaches called Luke Fields to the mound to close the game. With rain beginning to fall and the Hawks now in a double digit deficit, the game was coming to an end. However, not before Griffin Rogers and George Boero made it around the base paths due to base on balls making the final score 14-2. The JV baseball team will look to bounce back next week with two more games against GCA and CPA. Go Hawks!
