From the Desk of the Head of School- January 15, 2021

Dear Parents,

There is an orchid in the Turner Lobby that oversees the comings and goings of all who enter. This orchid has been there since 2015 and has seen this school through the pulsing cycle of each school year with steadfast attention. Our orchid brings color on these drab winter days, brightness in these dark early morning and early evening hours, and a serene majesty throughout the day. It is welcoming and comforting - much like the person in whose honor it has taken its post - Nancy Turner, who greeted every family and faculty member that walked through those doors for thirty-five years.

In these uncertain times I’ve found it helpful to remember those who have come before us - those on whose shoulders we now stand and look to not only preserve this learning community, but to help nurture it so it may thrive long into the future. We have so much to be thankful to them for and the future they envisioned for us.

When our orchid has seen all it can see and comforted all it can comfort, it moves on and a new orchid, bright and welcoming and ready for the world, takes its place. And so it goes at Harding Academy, embracing the future and what it will bring with a brightness and majesty that defines us as a community.

Please enjoy the weekend.
