From the Desk of the Head of School- October 2, 2020

Dear Parents,

We find ourselves at the end of another week and having rolled into October with our school open and together. Again, a huge thank you to all of you for helping us accomplish this. It remains a long race to run, but we are demonstrating that we can do it with dedication and determination. As you no doubt know, Davidson County is back into Phase 3 as of October 1. I want to make clear that this status change won’t change any of the priorities or protocols we have in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will remain very intentional around our health and safety measures, as they are helping to mitigate the risk of community spread here at Harding Academy.

Having said that, as we get ready for week seven, in some ways the rhythm of the school year and the events we look at on the calendar feel like they have moved beyond abstract, hoped for possibilities, into reimagined and altered happenings. One event we are excited to have back on the calendar is the 45th Annual Harding Art Show. As you may remember, we postponed the Harding Art Show in the spring to this year in the hopes of enjoying all the 2020 Art Show has to offer - only a year later. I want to thank Art Show Chairs, Dina Sjursen and Angela Nord, for their incredible leadership, patience, and imagination as they have shepherded this Art Show through the onset of the pandemic and continue to work on the Show’s behalf through this year.

I am excited to announce that this year the Harding Art Show will be virtual for 2021. Artists from over 13 states and across multiple artistic mediums will be featured on our online platform. As the largest and most successful school art show in the Southeast, the Harding Art Show typically welcomes around five thousand attendees to campus each year. While we won’t be in a position to be hospitable in this way for 2021, we are excited about expanding our presence via a much more robust online presence.

The Harding Art Show team has a lot of wonderful surprises in store as we move through 2020 and into 2021 and the Virtual Art Show comes to life. They will also be in touch with artists and sponsors early next week with more details on this exciting announcement. Proceeds from the Harding Art Show go directly to the Harding Parents Association and are allocated to their priorities of supporting the faculty, staff, and administration of the school. The HPA continues to focus on the top strategic priorities of the school, including the Foundations for the Future Capital Campaign. Have a safe and healthy weekend.
