From the Desk of the Head of School- February 14, 2020

There is much excitement in the Skeen household, as tonight my family and I will be in attendance at the all school musical, Aladdin Jr. There is a lot to look forward to. The sheer size of the production is a testament to the excellence of the experience: 203 students in the cast, over 30 students in the production staff, and countless parents, past parents, and community members are all taking part in this show.

When over half of all eligible students and their families are participating in a theatre program, there is something much more than the songs we hear or costumes we see that drives this level of excitement and participation. Theatre at Harding Academy is a gem because it develops in our students confidence and commitment to community. It develops self-efficacy and leadership. Collaboration and communication. The experience challenges our students just as it nurtures them. It is one vehicle through which we live out our mission: to educate and inspire young people to become thoughtful, creative, lifelong learners and self-disciplined, responsible, caring citizens.

And in the end, they see the fruit of their growth in an incredible performance that has brought together so many different parts of our learning community. We will celebrate that growth tonight and tomorrow afternoon. And we will eagerly await the next iteration of the experience.

I look forward to being with you all tonight as our kids create a whole new world.
