Harding Athletic Highlights 8/12-8/16

PARENT/COACH COMMUNICATION
Parenting and coaching are both extremely challenging vocations. Understanding each other’s roles and following proper channels of communication will enable parents and coaches to work effectively together to provide a meaningful and positive experience for student-athletes at Harding Academy. We believe in the 24 hour-rule for communication especially when there is frustration or anger. The idea is to delay communication to allow for a calming down time to reduce the chance for an emotional overreaction and increase the opportunity to think about the situation more rationally.

Communication Parents Can Expect From a Coach:
  1. Philosophy of Coach
  2. Locations and times of practices and contests
  3. Expectations the coach has of the players and of the team
  4. Team requirements
  5. Team rules and disciplinary action for violation of team rules
  6. Procedure followed if your child becomes injured (determined by athletic trainer)
  7. What role (if any) the parents may play to help the coach or team...ie: volunteer
help, transportation, team meetings, meals, contest help, etc.
Communication Coaches Can Expect From a Parent:
  1. Any concerns (normally these should be expressed directly to the Head Coach, not assistants)
  2. Notification of any schedule conflicts well in advance
  3. Health/Wellness issues concerning your child

Appropriate Concerns to Discuss With a Coach:
  1. The treatment of your child mentally and physically
  2. Ways to help your child improve
  3. Concerns about your child’s behavior
  4. Academic support
*Open communication between parents and coaches is encouraged on each of the issues listed above. Parents can expect coaches to respond to phone calls or emails within 24 hours.
It may be difficult at times, to accept your child is not playing as much as you would like or to agree with the position your child is playing on a team. Recognizing that coaches are the ones who work with the team on a daily basis in practice and in competition, it is important to understand that they will make judgment decisions based on what they believe to be best for the team. Listed above are those issues that should be left to the discretion of the coach.

Cross-Country Meet 1 Results
The cross-country teams were finally able to get a two mile time last Friday, September 11 at Vaughn's Creek. It was a hot day, but the runners endured the heat with only a few practices under their belt. This baseline time will now help each runner set the course on improving their times for the season ahead. Next Friday, September 25 will be our second intramural meet of the season.
