Eighth Grade History

At Harding, our teachers and students take their teaching and learning beyond the classroom. Our new middle school schedule allows our students and faculty to explore historic sites across Nashville during their core class time.

Eighth grade students engaged in a multi day local history project with @bellemeadehistoricsite Site. After studying about enslavement in the 1800s, students met with an historical interpreter to walk through the site following the stories of two enslaved teens, Millie and Monroe. The following day, Belle Meade historian Jeff Williams came to Harding Academy to share aspects of his role as a career historian. He led students through a discovery activity using newly found primary sources about Moses Grant, a formerly enslaved mason at Belle Meade Historic Site.
