From the Desk of the Head of School- November 16, 2018

Dear Parents,

As we enter the weekend ahead of Thanksgiving week, I wanted to offer up a few vignettes which I think capture the heart of our school.

  • Whenever I am passing the playground, there are almost always multiple grades at play. Every time, I see older and younger children playing together on the edges. To me, this is a barometer of Harding’s culture and if I ever stop seeing that, we’re in trouble.
  • Last night, I spoke with a past Harding parent who told me they’ve been celebrating Thanksgiving with two other Harding families for the past twenty years. This is what happens when families spend the most formative parenting years of their lives together at Harding Academy.
  • Stephanie Bacon may have been the busiest person at Harding Academy this week, checking in an incredible array of parent volunteers. Just this week, parents have been working on Second Harvest, the Parents’ Party, Grandparents’ Chocolate, second grade craft project, Harding Parents’ Association executive committee meeting, and more. We are the envy of our peer schools in Nashville because of how committed and involved our parents are in the life of our school. Thank you all!
  • Our girls’ soccer team battled in the rain and wind on Monday night in the HVAC semifinals, just missing on a number of late tries. Our boys’ soccer team nearly pulled off a semi-final victory against a team they lost to 7-1 at the beginning of the season. Our wrestling team is poised to compete in the HVAC tournament tomorrow, after going toe-to-toe with BA last night. All of our student-athletes have grown in confidence, connection, and character as a result.
  • Rehearsals have begun for our winter musical: Newsies. 206 students from grades 1 through 8 are participating. That translates to 41% if the entire student body. Enough said.

I would love to hear your stories and how they represent the heart of our school: its people and the community in which we all live and learn.

Have a great weekend.
