Athletics at Harding
The objective of the Harding athletic program is to provide a challenging and nurturing experience that will prepare the student athlete for inter-scholastic competition appropriate to their age and skill level. Harding is committed to providing a varied program of interscholastic sports and maintaining competitive varsity programs with support from junior varsity teams.

Harding Academy is a member of the Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference (HVAC) as well as the Greater Nashville Athletic Conference (GNAC) and competes in a variety of sports at the middle school level. Boys compete in baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track, and wrestling. Girls compete in basketball, cross-country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, and volleyball. Varsity and Jr. Varsity cheerleading are also part of the athletic program.

Lower school cross-country is offered as an after-school activity to students in kindergarten through fifth grade during the fall season. Fifth grade boys may participate on a fifth/sixth grade football team, the Eagles, which is a member of the Southwest Nashville Football League. A Disc Golf Club (Frisbee) is offered as an after-school activity to boys and girls in grades two through eight during the spring season. In addition, fifth graders have the opportunity to participate in wrestling, girls junior varsity basketball, boys lacrosse, baseball, and track and field.

The Harding Academy middle school athletic program offers the following opportunities to fifth graders to cultivate and to gain experience as they prepare for their middle school years at Harding Academy. For further information on these sports and when they are offered please refer to the main athletic page on CompassNet.

HVAC was founded to foster athletic competition and the spirit of sportsmanship among member schools at the seventh and eighth grade levels and Harding is governed by its constitution. One of those governing principals allows a school, at its discretion, to roster sixth graders on its teams.
HVAC member schools include:
  • Battle Ground Academy
  • Brentwood Academy
  • Christ Presbyterian Academy
  • Donelson Christian Academy
  • Ensworth
  • Franklin Road Academy
  • Harding Academy

Harding Academy Varsity Football Defeats St. Matthews
9/2/2010

Harding Academy is off to a 2-0 start after a convincing 39-14 victory over St. Matthews on Wednesday, September 1. The Generals jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead on the strength of a solid running game and key special teams plays. Arthur Churchwell (USN) returned a punt 38 yards for a TD and added 2 other touchdowns on the ground from his tailback position. J.C. Swope (USN) also had a special teams touchdown on a 75 yard kickoff return. Contributing to the scoring for the Generals were running backs Montgomery Jackson and Clay Cavallo, each of whom had a touchdown run in the second half. Jack Barnes completed 2 of 3 passes for 39 yards and the Generals rushing attack accumulated 139 yards on the day. The defense once again had a solid effort. The Generals are back in action next Wednesday at 4:30 against St. Edwards.

The Harding General Takes the Court!
1/26/2010
On Sunday afternoon, January 24, during the halftime break at the Vanderbilt women's basketball against Mississippi State game, area mascots were invited to play a game of their own. Among the participants was our own Harding General (aka Jack Thompson '10) who attempted a five-foot jump shot from the elbow of the floor. Although his bid was unsuccessful, it was a hardy effort and we're proud of him. Go Generals!!
